Talking
Divorce is traumatic for parents and children alike.Although responses will depend upon your children's age, nature of and the circumstances surrounding the upcoming divorce, many children feel sad, frustrated, angry and anxious about these feelings which is not uncommon for them to act out.
Luckily, as the parent you can help your children during the divorce by reducing tension, being patient as everyone adjusts to the new situation and responding openly and honestly to your children's concerns.
When it becomes apparent you will be divorcing...
-It is time talk to your children about your decision.
-Both you and your spouse should be a part of this discussion.
-Leave ALL feelings of anger, guilt, or blame out of the conversation and BE the adult.
-The discussion about divorce should be geared to the age of your children, their maturity level and their temperament.
